My memory of Chief Tepe will always be a welcoming smile and a huge hug every time I saw him. Throughout my time knowing him, he supported me both personally and on a department level. I knew anything I needed he was there and always knew the right thing to say and do. There was no situation Phil didn’t have the proper reaction to, he could make you feel at ease under the worst circumstances just knowing he was gonna be there for you and support you. He even made me try his go to drink, a good ole jack and ginger, which became my favorite too. Whenever I have one in the future it’ll be for him. I miss you Chief, it was an honor to serve the community alongside you. To the Tepe family, I thank you for allowing Phil to become our family too and just know you all have the support of the entire Dix Hills family. Rest peacefully Chief.
You got me thru my 1st working fire and the past 10 years of service. Always there when you were needed by me, the company, the department and the country. With every shot of jack, Sinatra on a good day you will be thought of and missed deeply. Knowing you and having you as a friend was my privilege and honor. Until we meet again my friend, RIP.

Chief Steven L. Simon ret. Phil and I had known each other for 43 years, we fought fires together and became friends . I became Chief of the Coram FD and he became Chief of Dix Hills, while I was teaching in Half Hollow Hills. We became friends and stayed in contact for all these years. A couple of months ago he contacted me to to produce 2 plaques for his VFW and American Legion. These plaque a just about done, I would like to donate them in his name. Please let me know which American Legion and VFW they can be presented to. My love , prayers and condolences I send to his family and the Dix Hills Fire Dept. Chief Tepe I will miss you !!😎🙏🇺🇸👨🚒
Would always share a kind word or two at a parade, fire scenes and county coordinator meetings. Even a occasional phone call looking for guidance. He will surely be missed but not forgotten. True gentleman
My earliest memory of Phil is when he was the captain of company 2 when I was in the juniors. I remember having him sign the paperwork when I was getting ready to join the department.
Over the years it was always nice to see him around and talk to him about what I was doing on the job. Phil always knew what do say and he always knew how to cheer you up. He will truly be missed. Rest in Peace brother we will take it from here.
Commissioner Tepe you were truly a Gem. Thank you for all that you’ve done. My heart is sad but happy to dedicate my services best I can as u will be watching over all us. We will continue to make u proud. We’ll take it from here. Rest up Chief
I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news of his passing. It was my pleasure serving beside Phil in the commissioners office for 5 years. I learned a lot from this man and will be forever grateful to him!! It made me a much better person!! We use to text back and forth and he ended every text with "My Friend "

As a younger member of the fire service, I'd see Phil at the majority of fires around the Town of Huntington, and I'd say to myself "that guy is important, he's at everything!". It was as the years went on that I realized why he was so important. It wasn't because he showed up all the time, it was what he did when he showed up. The guidance and insight Phil shared from his countless years of service was offered up to all who would listen and was an aid to all who were fortunate to cross paths with him on the fire ground.
